2014-07-02 : Kirriemuir News

Rainy days call for a bucket full of news, and that is just what I have for all of you! At last count Mom’s magical rain gauge has caught almost three inches of rain in the last few days.

John Kloberdanz and granddaughter Ashlyn McCormick, and Ashlyn’s father Sean, ventured to Edmonton from June 22-25 to visit John’s sister Marion and her husband Roy Carlson at their home. Marion had a wonderful time fussing over Ashlyn for ending the year with honour roll grades in all her grade seven subjects. Ashlyn is proud of her father for not getting sick in the theatre during the flying sequences after she talked him into taking her to see ‘How To Train Your Dragon 2’ on Monday evening. The green in his face was almost gone by the next morning.

Another busy year ended at Altario School. Barry Davis, former Altario principal and current school trustee led the awards presentation and thanked the outgoing principal and teachers for their service. ASC president Carissa Schuetzle also made a presentation and thanked those staff who are moving on.

The old general store in Kirriemuir, also known as Kirriemuir Ag & Oil, is currently getting new siding. Since that the old siding has been removed you can see how many additions the original structure has had over the years, and there is a large amount!

Friday night was full of chuckwagon races at the Ponoka Stampede, and Jim, Bernie & Ed and Isabel Ference were there!  Jim & Bernie continued on to Edmonton to spend the weekend visiting with Kari, Damien and grandkids Skyla and Levi.  Ed & Isabel spent the night with Doug & Marlene Campbell at Camrose, returning home on Saturday.

Friends and relatives gathered at Kirriemuir Hall on Thursday evening to shower Rebecca Ference, who will become Mrs. Trevor Chopek on July 26th.  Rebecca’s sister Meaghan Froese and nephew Trace from Hamiota, Manitoba were in attendance and will be spending a few days with Doug & Nancy before making the long drive back home.

Birthday greetings to Michelle Formanek on June 20th, Alisha Dalton on the 21st, Reese Vert on the 22nd, Craig Ference on the 26th, and Dallas Vert on the 30th.

Happy anniversary to Gary and Joy Mouly on June 27th, and Jim and Bernie Ference on the 29th.

I sure hope more Kirriemuir news pours in for my last column as the column as the Kirriemuir Correspondent will be signing off July 12th. Please send in all the news that’s fit to print to ashlynmccormick@gmail.com or give me a call. Here’s hoping we see a little sunshine soon.
