Rodeo Rider by Ashlyn McCormick

It must be spring as a steady stream of grain trucks, tractors and drills have been passing by my house the last two weeks. Many farmers are finishing up their planting and are thankful for the rains we have the last few days. Sandra Doneff is happy to report that they finished seeding on Friday.

Exciting news for the Carpentier household. Their son Sean Carpentier is thinking of moving back to ranch! Along with a son moving home, their granddaughter, Kaylee who is a member of the Calgary Stampede Marching Band, is going to Brazil for a world marching band competition. Congratulations Kaylee!

Trevor and Christine Wignell of Calgary, and John and Lisa Niddrie of Invermere BC have been spending some time at the Prairie View Bed and Breakfast. While here, they stopped at John & Faye Kloberdanz’s where John Niddrie happily photographed some of the antique vehicles and machinery in the yard. They were touring the area to also photograph the Esther elevator and other sites full of interesting things.

On an extended May long weekend, Glen Vert and Harriet started their Travel Alberta tour by visiting David Vert at Mirror, then motored on to visit Harriet’s sister at Alberta Beach. On Saturday, they helped Ken Caldwell at Valleyview celebrate his 75th birthday. On their way home, Glen and Harriet stopped in Entwhistle to chinwag with Glen’s cousins Connie, Don and Larry, then they were onto Onaway to say ‘hi’ to cousin Doug & family. After grabbing a bed for the night at Harriet’s sister’s place in Alberta Beach, they stopped off in Stetter to see Auntie Mary and Uncle Albert Vert.

Dad and I spent an enjoyable last two days shooting the 4-H rodeo at Gooseberry Lake. There were many awesome pictures, excellent riders, and goat wrangling. I did not realize how loud goats could holler, too. Congratulation to all the riders for getting up there and showing off their cowboy (and cowgirl!) skills.

May is a busy month for birthdays in the Kirriemuir area. Happy birthday to Faye Kloberdanz onthe 18th, Beryl Ward on the 22nd, Jennifer McCormick on the 25th, Eddie Ference on the 26th, and Taylor Kelts on the 28th. In all, Happy Birthday to all the special Birthday people!

Spring must also be the time for weddings! Happy anniversary to Chris and Wanda Macgregor on May 27th, and Tim and Kelly Heinrich on the 31st. Happy 46th wedding anniversary to my grandparents, John and Faye Kloberdanz, on June 1. Anniversary greetings also going out to Stephen and Lorrinda Vert on June 4th.

Finally, Carissa and Reanne Schuetzle’s band – Redeemed – had a concert on Friday at Trochu. They report having a good turnout and everyone had a blast! Their sister Danelle and niece Baby Zoe also flew home on Friday, and will be visiting until Saturday.

That’s it for this week. If you have any news please email me at ashlynmccormick@gmail.com. This is Ashlyn signing to go and recover from this year’s rodeo.
