Has your phone been making sinister ringing sounds? Preparations are underway for the upcoming Kirriemuir Discing Bonspiel. The usual volunteers and community members have been receiving their annual phone calls from Marcine Evaskevich asking them to bring in food items and work a shift. If you haven’t gotten your usual call, please check in! (Or flee screaming in terror. That works too.)
Fresh burnout tracks have been appearing all along Range Road 31 over the past week or so, from Township Road 342 all the way up to Hwy 12, where they ended in some spectacular doughnut marks on the pavement at the intersection. If anyone has information on the culprit, please be kind enough to pass it along to the RCMP before someone gets hurt.
A shout out to Special Areas for the work they have done replacing damaged signs this winter. Shot up and knocked over stop and other road signs are being fixed much more quickly this year. Much appreciated.
Birthday wishes are sent out to Wanda MacGregor who reached the Big Four Oh on St. Patrick’s Day. She received many well wishes on Facebook, including one from her mother Sharon, that included a lovely childhood photograph.
Thursday March 20th marked a miserable first day of spring. Meadowlarks were spotted looking for food, confused geese were wandering around frozen sloughs, and John and Faye Kloberdanz spotted their first robin of 2014 in a snow squall while driving back from a dental appointment in Hanna. I hope Faye’s mouth freezing wore off faster than our winter freezing is. Yuck!
Sean McCormick drove his last shift as a regular bus driver for the Kirriemuir route this past Friday, March 21st, and turned his bus back in over the weekend. He will miss ‘his kids’, but is looking forward to being able being able to do more writing and photography again. He is staying on with PLRD No. 25 as a spare driver.
Jinel Ference reports that she and Craig are busy getting ready for calving. Mom took the little ones swimming in Lloydminster on Saturday March 22nd, and then returned home to spend more time with Krista and Max Stang who are out visiting for a few days.
Lots of locals traveling near and far right now. Natasha Popisil is off visiting her parents this weekend with her little one. Here’s hoping they have safe travels. Off to Honduras for a couple of weeks are Curtis Ference and Ryan Davis. While there they will attend a friend’s wedding at the Copan Ruins. Lynn & Steve Vert headed to their condo in Canmore for a few days. They were met there by their daughter Danita, Mike and family.
Snowbirds Jim & Bernie Ference flew in from the Arizona, slept in their own bed a few nights, and then headed to Lloydminster to take in grand daughter Jaylen’s Burrows’ hockey game on the weekend. Damien, Kari, Skyla and Levi from Edmonton met up with them in Lloydminster as well.
Ed & Isabel Ference had a pleasant surprise when Mike & Tara had a sleepover on Friday evening and returned home Saturday evening.
That’s it for this week. This is Ashlyn McCormick signing off to stow away in Jim and Bernie’s motorhome just in case they decide to go back to Arizona where it’s warm!
