Hawk Talk : Fun Run

Our sports teams are notching up more wins, students are cramming for finals, and this year’s graduation ceremonies have come and gone. Life is busy as usual for students at JCC.

The grade eights and nines completed their 4km sport-themed ‘Fun Run’ on Thursday, May 18th afternoon with Mr. Mohl and Ms. Campbell. They had a great little fundraiser. This was part of their We Canada programming that Mohl/Campbell have been team teaching them over the last few weeks. In total, they raised $275 for STARS and $509.35 for the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

JCC’s graduation ceremonies were held at the school on the evening of May 19th. We had a packed gymnasium with some family and friends overflowing to our new theatre where they followed the proceedings on video. We thank Mr. Tim Martin for being this year’s speaker and congratulate Kara Collier, this year’s valedictorian. Tashena Hart was voted as the winner of this year’s Scott Mohl Memorial Award by her classmates.

The grade nine parent meeting was hosted at JCC by Mrs. Limpert on May 23. Students and parents were introduced to life in high school. Following this, the monthly School Council meeting took place.

On May 24th, Mayor Chris Warwick taught Mr. MacKay’s grade six class all about municipal government. J. C. Charyk School’s annual track meet was also held on Wednesday, May 24th. Mackenzie Dadson came in 3rd for javelin, Abigail Warwick claimed third place in the 100-meter dash.

On the afternoon of May 25, the elementary classes held their Spring Music Concert. Ms. Marsh’s students’ ‘grandparents’ from the Hanna Lodge came to the school to attend the spring concert as well.

Congratulations to the girls’ rugby team who have kicked off their season with a 2-0 record! The first game’s score was 22-7. Their second game was 24-5. Go Hawks!

The end of the school year is fast approaching and that means it’s all exams, all the time. Exam schedules are posted in the calendar on the school Website at jcc.plrd.ab.ca so parents and students know what is happening, when. For the old school folks, the June calendar is up on the whiteboard in the main foyer including field trips, triathlons, track meets, and those pesky but necessary final exams. Remember it’s early out next Tuesday (June 6th) and a designated day off next Friday, June 9th.

That’s all the news that’s fit to print for this week’s issue. We’ll be back in two weeks with more goings on from JCC.
